What’s the most precious and expensive gemstone in the world?

Some say its Diamond, others say emerald, ruby and a stone I never heard of, jade, I wanted to know to give a gift for my gf, what’s the most romantic gem?

The most expensive gems are the rarest, for example, you have mentioned Jade, there are two kinds of Jades, Nephrite and Jadiete Jade, Nephrite is a very cheap stone compared with the Big 4 (Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald) but the Jadiete Jade is one of the most expensive gems in the world, in Asia, its even more than a Diamond. Regarding Diamonds, the colored ones are the most expensive if they are vivid in their color intensity, Red Diamond being the most expensive, colored diamonds are called Fancy Diamonds. Alexandrite, Tanzanite and Tsavorite are also fetching high prices in the States. If you wanna buy your girlfriend a gem jewelry, it depends on your budget, if you like her to brag about rarity and the cost, buy her Bixibite, often called Red Emerald but its just a Red Beryl and is available in the States where its only deposit is found. If your budget is small, go for Aquamarine or Peridot, these stones are loved by most elite women in Europe. Olive Color Peridot is more preferable. I am talking about rings and braclets, if you buy her a necklace, go for Opals with multi-color effect. Alexandrite is way too expensive & is usually for the male gender or very tough women. Ruby for powerful women, sapphire for women who seek social status very much, Opals for fragile women and peridot, aquamarine, matrix pearls, pink diamond, lavender jade, Rubelitte Tourmaline and softy colored stones are for very romantic ladies.
Cheers

well a diamond is more of a jewel, i mean gems are not as valuable, but since you seem to be counting jewels and gems as the same thing in this situation i would say diamond.

Canary Diamond, but I don’t personally like them. You could get her a nice piece of jewelry with her birthstone, maybe in the shape of a heart pendant or something.

    Is you gf a geologist?

If not, then she’d be most impressed with a diamond.
Colorless diamonds, without any imperfections, i.e. a perfect lattice of carbon, are most expensive, no matter their size. People seem happy with an almost colorless, with a few imperfections, invisible to the human eye, fair carat size diamond. You can also research diamonds on-line. There are a few good websites, google them up.

Alexandrite is the most expensive gemstone available commercially.
But, if you’re going to go with diamonds, colored diamonds are the most valueble.
